Construction Site, April 2008. Despite record rainfalls this spring, work on the piers and foundations of the museum buildings continues at a fast pace. Visible in the middle foreground is the mat footing of the dining bridge’s east buttress. The grade beam on the east clearly defines the shapes of the museum store and administration building.

Teamwork. . Successfully orchestrating a major pour requires teamwork and precision. Concrete trucks moved from the construction yard batch plant to the site of the pour in a continuous stream for four hours. In all, 270 cubic yards of concrete were placed.

Micro Piles. Work continues steadily on the installation of the museum’s 1,200 micro piles. These micro piles are a critical part of the museum’s foundation structure. They will provide resistance to the forces of the soil backfilled behind many of the buildings’ exterior walls. In the background, soil nailing with shot-crete is taking place along the western perimeter of the museum’s temporary exhibitions pavilion.
